Every year, on the occasion of the National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles (M’illumino di meno, February 16), citizens, schools, institutions and associations are invited to take concrete actions towards sustainability. It is both a symbolic and practical opportunity to reflect together on how everyday choices contribute to a more responsible and environmentally friendly future.
For M’illumino di meno 2025, Eco Research took part in the initiatives promoted by the library network of Bolzano – Europa, Novacella and Civic libraries – meeting elementary and middle school students to discuss a topic that concerns us all: plastic.
The advent of plastic has revolutionized modern societies, contributing to a level of development and well-being never experienced before. Thanks to its unique properties, it has become indispensable and omnipresent in everyday life. However, it also represents a serious environmental threat. Due to its persistence and resistance to degradation, if not properly disposed of, it becomes a pollutant and can contribute to the release of toxic substances. Its dispersion is problematic not only for different environmental compartments but also for the organisms that inhabit them, with serious consequences for human health.
To encourage a more sustainable lifestyle, we reflected together with the students on the impact of our daily habits and on small actions that can make a difference. We also shed light on an often-overlooked aspect: the presence of plastic in the clothes we wear and the environmental impact of the fashion industry. After a theoretical and discussion-based part, the students took part in a playful activity to memorize the rules of plastic recycling.
An educational and inspiring experience to raise awareness among the younger generations towards responsible choices… for a sustainable future!
