Eco – Research

The course “Sustainability: Challenges and Solutions” promoted by the STARS Alliance within the Studium Generale programme of UNIBZ is starting.

From October 15 to January 14, the lectures of the course “Sustainability: Challenges and Solutions” will take place at the UNIBZ campus. In total, the course includes 10 sessions featuring 19 contributions related to the topic of sustainability. The initiative is made possible through the participation of experts from all research centres affiliated with the STARS Alliance, namely the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, the Theological Academic Study of Bressanone, Eurac Research, the Laimburg Research Centre, Fraunhofer Italia, Eco Research, and the Museum of Nature South Tyrol.
Thanks to the diverse expertise of each institution, the topic of sustainability will be addressed from multiple perspectives, tackling challenges and solutions that span economic, ecological, and social dimensions, with a particular focus on the Alpine territory and environment.

Eco Research will contribute with two presentations on the following topics:

  • What kind of plastic are you? From product to invisible pollution
This lecture will address the topic of plastic production and use, with a focus on proper disposal and the environmental consequences of plastic dispersion.
    Speaker: Massimo Donegà
    29/10/2025 | 17:00 – 19:00 | Room E4.11
  • Climate change in the mountains: Alpine streams between fragility and resilience
The presentation will explore how glacier retreat and permafrost degradation are profoundly altering Alpine streams, affecting their chemical, physical, and ecological quality.
    Speaker: Stefano Brighenti
    26/11/2025 | 17:00 – 19:00 | Room E4.11.

The course is open both to participants enrolled in the Studium Generale and to external attendees interested in individual lectures. Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes, followed by a short discussion with the audience.
