Le Mille e una Scienza 2025

The 2025 edition of the festival “Le Mille e una Scienza” has once again concluded with great success, recording a significant increase in attendance compared to the previous year. This year’s programme was enriched with new events, such as the “Road to Festival” series hosted at the Nuova Libreria Cappelli, the “Science Day”, and the “Science Live” initiative organised at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. As in past editions, Castel Mareccio provided the perfect setting for workshops, scientific stands, and performances that animated the science weekend from 14 to 16 November.

Bioplastics in Eyewear

On March 26, 2025, The Eyewear Museum in Pieve di Cadore hosted the closing event of the Occhio al BIO! project, promoted by Certottica Group in collaboration with the University of Trento and co-financed by the Cariverona Foundation. The project aimed to clarify the use of bioplastics in eyewear production, monitor development prospects in the sector, and provide companies with concrete tools to address the challenges related to innovation, sustainability, and waste management. It also examined the life cycle of eyewear and its treatment as waste. Since no specific disposal pathway exists for these products, the project explored potential solutions aligned with the principles of the circular economy.

Indoor air quality monitoring: results of the Torricelli–Eco Research project at Ecomondo 2024

Eco Research took part in the 2024 edition of Ecomondo in Rimini as co-author of an oral contribution within the session “Indoor air: its role in the relationship between environment and health”, organized by the Ecomondo Scientific Technical Committee & the Italian National Institute of Health, and moderated by Prof. Settimo (Italian National Institute of Health) and Prof. De Gennaro (University of Bari).

Italia Next DOP

These are some of the keywords that served as the leitmotif for “Italia Next DOP”, the 1st Scientific Symposium dedicated to the PDO and PGI supply chains, an initiative organized by the Qualivita Foundation to disseminate scientific research involving this sector (Rome, Auditorium della Tecnica, 22 February 2023).

The event, divided into plenary scientific sessions and the presentation of over 90 research projects related to Italian PDOs and PGIs in the Agorà Space of GI (geographical indication) Research, obtained large public participation, aiming at stimulating the connection between research and the productive sector, given the challenges (climate change, nutriscore, unfair competition, environmental sustainability, food frauds) that the GI supply chain, an Italian excellence, has to face. It is precisely on such important issues that it is necessary to support technology transfer so that research translates into innovation. In this perspective, the Agorà offered an overview of successful stories, where the protagonists are the PDO and PGI products valued, protected, and renewed thanks to the collaboration between research institutions and consortia. Italia Next DOP is the first step of a long-term strategy promoted by the Qualivita Foundation and entitled “Qualivita 2030” which will see the launch of a new international dissemination magazine and the organization of a biennial symposium as well as widespread thematic workshops on the territory. Qualivita 2030 intends to be one of the tools for the promotion of scientific knowledge on Geographical Indications, in line with the European Farm to Fork strategy and the UN agenda…

Isotope analysis: an opportunity for the agroforestry chain and sustainable land management

For several years Eco Research, the Laimburg Research Center, and the Free University of Bolzano have been involved in research projects focused on the determination of the origin of agricultural products through the analysis of the stable isotopes of strontium (Sr) and the study of water cycles in the emerging scenarios affected by the climate change through the analysis of the stable isotopes of hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O). The results of this multi-year collaboration, financed by the Autonomous Province of Bozen – Bolzano within the “Capacity Building 2014 – 2021″ funding frame, were presented on September 19 at the Free University of Bolzano…

Capacity building 2014-2021

On May 5 the final event of the “Capacity Building 2014 – 2021” funding program of the Autonomous Province of Bozen – Bolzano was held at the NOI Techpark.

Between 2014 and 2021, the Autonomous Province of Bozen – Bolzano invested 33 million euros for the construction of 16 new laboratories, distributed between the NOI Techpark and the headquarters of the various research institutions. In these laboratories, highly specialized personnel conduct research activities in the fields of Alpine, Environmental, and Food Technologies, Energy Production and Casa Clima…

Indoor air quality in schools

On 12 April, a seminar entitled ‘Indoor Air Quality in School Environments’ was held at the I.I.S.S. ‘Galileo Galilei’ in Bolzano, in which students from the ‘Chemistry and Environmental and Health Biotechnology’ course of the ‘Galileo Galilei’ Technical Institute and the ‘Construction-Territory-Environment’ course of the ITCAT ‘A. and P. Delai’ presented the first results of the air quality monitoring carried out inside school premises. The study, coordinated by Prof. Modonese and Prof. Pellizzari, aims to determine indoor air quality and the variables by which it is affected…
